This has become a growing niche for the cannabis industry. Pot Stock REITs or “Real Estate Investment Trusts” are the same as normal REITs in that they own income-producing real estate. Generally commercial, the real estate owned could be things like shopping malls, warehouses, and even hotels. With Pot Stock REITs, these trusts will focus on owning cannabis real estate. The benefit of buying REITs may also include periodic dividends from the companies. Generally speaking, to qualify as a REIT, a company has most of its assets and income connected to its real estate investments. Because of this, REITs must distribute 90% of taxable income to shareholders annually in the form of dividends.
